These have a very rare upholstery which is called Turkey work, it’s a kind of Kilim rug which has been used for century’s to upholstery English country house furniture, this one is a very heavy weave which is bordered with Napoleonic blue
The chairs themselves are circa 1860, solid mahogany with coil sprung bases, they have mixed brass and porcelain castors, the legs are carved in the Gillows Lancaster fashion, the back rests are recessed with handles to make moving them in and out easier
Condition wise the timber has been cleaned waxed and polished, the frames have all been checked glued and clamped as required, the upholstery is old but in fantastic condition throughout
