This impressive pair of candelabra made in the era of Napoleon III in France circa 1870 are very powerful and impressive. Heavily cast with references to the classical past and profusely covered with acanthus leaves and pelmets the set is predominantly made in dark patinated bronze and the gilding is used as decorative spaces and accents to create effect and dramatic flair. Created as a center blaster shaft the whole rests on griffin-headed paw feet set on a conforming plinth with a decorative border applied. The arms are flared out and form large but tight branches ending in big acanthus leaf cups. Once made into lamps they have now been de-lamped and converted back to candelabra.
