This pair of Ashworth’s Ironstone plates are decorated with their hand coloured and gilded pattern 3/792 done using the Imari palette of underglaze blue, iron red and gold. To the centre, floating above a flower laden gnarled tree stump is a butterfly, and around the rim are flowers interspersed with stylised pink blossoms. The diameter of the plate is 260 mm (10.25 inches) and it stands 32 mm (1.25 inches) high. Both carry the printed Royal coat of arms mark used at Ashworth’s from 1862. Overall the condition is very good, but there has been some very, very slight loss of colour and gilding on the high points. They would date from around 1865.
