This is a beautifully made version of a tradtional Oakleaf patern quilt. The rust (or brick) color appears to come forward while the yellow recedes. The border is a paisley and floral print that blends perfectly with the interior. The white areas are quilted with several different patterns.
The quilt measures 76 inches square. It was made in New Oxford, Pennsylvania, probably by Joanna Jane Hoover who died in 1939. It may also have been worked on by her daughter, Mary Grace Hoover Stock (1899-1979). The two women were prolific quiltmakers. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition.
