This is a magnificent carpet from Konya, Central Anatolia. It has all the characteristics of this carpet region from which the most beautiful and best pieces in Anatolia come. Konya was for a long time the center of Anatolian weaving art and produced a wide variety of creations. Due to the numerous different ethnic groups that settled here. All carpets from Konya have the best colors, are perfectly and harmoniously coordinated in their structure and carry archaic tribal symbols, often still handed down from the Selcuk period. Our carpet is a wonderful example of this area. In the center there are three powerful oriental stars, all with the rarely found lucky symbol of the “third eye” in the star rectangle. The stars are surrounded by chopped diamonds on a blue and yellow background. The wide yellow-ground border is decorated with stylized floral motifs. At the top and bottom of the carpet there are the arrowhead motifs that are so typical of Konya. The rare, very well-preserved carpet is a museum piece of great appeal and a it is also a beautiful representative of the art of weaving in Konya. Approximately 150 years old (around 1870).
