A large, Probably Scottish, 19th century mid Victorian arched fireplace insert with applied brass embellishments.
A wide and generous polished outer plate, with a raised decorative arched border displaying good crisp casting. The central arch is adorned with a wraparound cast brass acanthus cartouche, (that detaches for polishing) further cast brass base embellishments ( these are all removable, even when this insert is fitted in order to polish)
A decorative cast upper plate to the burning area with reeded fire stones, the large curved three barred fire front with later ash pan door.
The burning area is fairly large in this piece. The casting diamond stamps to the rear of the brass castings tells us this was made in 1860.
