Wim Ypma Rare Avant Garde Floor Lamp for A. Polak Amsterdam, Netherlands, 1950s. This is a very rare Wim Ypma floor lamp made for Abraham Polak, Amsterdam in 1956 or 1957. It comes directly from a private family and has never been on the market before. It is hard to imagine how modern and striking this slender floor lamp in metal, acrylic and brass must have looked in 1956 – a time when floor lamps looked completely different and most households still lived with very traditional furniture. This lamp must have been a true statement piece and something which looked like it came from the future. Even now in the 21st century this lamp looks surprisingly modern. A true modernist lamp, which was – and still – is a conversation piece in any room.
