Excellent Victorian marine oil painting, depicting fishing boats in choppy seas off a coastline and a busy port. The painting is by William Henry Williamson (1820-1883) and beautifully presented in this ornate gilt frame. Williamson was a gifted, London painter of coastal scenes, particularly of the south coast. He exhibited at Suffolk Street, the British Institute and the Royal Academy from 1853-75. One of the titles at the RA was ‘Off the Coast of Kent’.
