A Bohemian ruby flashed Spa glass tankard, with silver mounts, dated 1860. The large tankard engraved with panels of various buildings in German Spa towns, alternating with roundels. One panel inscribed ‘JL’ beneath a heraldic boars head. Having a large loop handle. The glass cover, inscribed ‘From Leiut. Col. J. Lardner. To his friend. B.H.H.Birchill, Esq. 1860’. The silver mounts with an elaborate thumb piece of a lion rampant before an oak tree, symbolic of strength and courage.
