Vintage Design
These two statues are really impressive in terms of beauty, execution and size, especially since, being adapted as table lamps, they are enhanced by the lighting from above also when it’s dark. They are high-quality reproductions of some of the most famous and representative baroque sculptures: the Marly horses, executed by Guillaume Coustou the Elder (29 November 1677, Lyon – 22 February 1746, Paris). He was a French sculptor of the Baroque and Louis XIV style. He was a royal sculptor for Louis XIV and Louis XV and became Director of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1735. He is best known for his monumental statues of horses made for the Chateau of Marly, whose replicas now stand in the Place de la Concorde in Paris, and in Louvre museum.
These replicas were very fashionable in decorating French interiors in the 19th century in spelter or bronze versions.
The dark wood bases of this statues ensure the protection of the furniture on which they will be displayed.
They are in good vintage condition. The dark brown patina has small areas where it is damaged ( see the pictures), but this only enhances the antique appearance of the assembly.
They have cables and plugs and work very well with European E27 bulbs that can also be bought and used in the USA, Canada, etc.
