A large and masculine 19th century Scottish (Edinburgh circa 1850) Belgian black marble fireplace surround. A substantial square shelf sits above an unadorned frieze, flanked by tall jambs both with profiled capping’s to the top, all resting on to moulded foot blocks, the jambs taper very slightly by 10mm from top to bottom, thus giving the piece a Egyptian revival look. Photos 10 and 11 show where the old gas lights used to be fixed to the top, all adding to the history and character of the piece.
