“Magnificent pair of Japanese Imari ginger jars in a famille rose palette of enamels on a light blue ground. The central medallion is a scene of hand maidens and a lord on a veranda overlooking a Taoist temple (flag) and mountains in the background. The cover is original and depicts sennins in a garden scene. The ground lushly and emblematically shows a floral motif representing the peony (masculine symbol), orchid (beauty symbol), chrysanthemum (symbol of autumn and joviality). The six mark overglaze signature of the bottom and also found on the inside of the cover indicate – creation in the mid nineteenth century 1850 – 1870. Museum quality – Very rare example in pristine condition. Antique value for the pair $5,200.00”.
