Tremendously fine and compactly woven, the warps and wefts give an impression of a finer weaving style at first glance, yet closer inspection reveals the Kazak style of weaving.
After over 150 years of age, the rug has remarkably remained in pristine condition. With a full pile, and kilim fringes fully intact, the rug has been very well kept throughout the years laying the foundation to be well-used for at least another 150 years.
Fashioned in the Konagend “Orduch” design, this Kazak rug is typified by the keyhole shaped shield medallion in its field centered with 8 “memling gul” medallions and outlined by tree branches on either side. The rug is special in that its field has not one but two background colors: ivory and midnight blue, which alternate throughout the length of the rug. Framing the rug, is a polychrome barber pole adding much color and life to the piece.
