19th c., France, an ormolu, gilt and polychrome enameled porcelain encrier or inkwell in pot form. It is decorated with flowering vines, the gilt bronze top with wells for writing implements and lidded inkwell holder, including porcelain wax seal with engraved monogram “BW”. Unsigned.
The shape of the pot is charming and unfussy, acting as a counterpoint to the ormolu decoration on around the base, including on the underside, and on the top of the pot. The porcelain body with bleu lapis ground is further painted with sweet flowers and leaves in golds, oranges and greens.
