Mid 19th Century Antique Beshir Rug from Turkmenistan in Blue, Red, Brown

Antique Beshir/Bashir Rug from Mid 19th Century in Blue, Red, Brown, Turkmenistan rug 16-1106.
Bashir rugs primarily were woven by Ersai Tribes. Ersari Tribe rugs were woven from Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan and into northern Afghanistan. Beshir weaving is a distinct from Turkoman tribes weaving as they tend to have more all over designs. The foundation of older Beshir, such as this rug, is all wool. It is also noted that some of the Ersari rugs of Northern Afghanistan of Ersari tribes use a mixture of wool and goat’s hair. This Beshir rug feature all-over repeating patterns with images taken from nature, such as leaves, vines in deep coloration of Blue and Red, alongside with accent colors of Brown, Yellow and ivory. This rug has some re piling and it has retained its original Kilim on both ends.

This is not your usual Talish: the field is red rather than blue and the main border is green rather than ivory. The warm red field of this southeastern Caucasian rug has two boxes and a scattering of iconic Talish volute knots. These knots appear again in the main band along with characteristic â€œdiceâ€. The jog in the lower inner guard indicates a weavers change of mind in this seemingly unique.
