A fine & rare antique 19th Century Ottoman Tombak (Gilt Copper) Nargile or Hookah pipe, Turkey, circa 1850.
A nagile or hookah pipe’s history dates back as far back as the 16th century, this very fine Tombak or gilt-copper version dates to the middle of the 1800s. The hookah is in two sections; the top with an engraved spiral decoration and a foliate border with a tube that descends into the hookah base. The base having bands of mihrab (Islamic niche) decoration and a central band with a floral motif and the ground finely engraved with flowers and foliate, the nargile raised on a flared foot, Condition is very good indeed.
