19th c., France, a lovely pair of fauteuils with painted carved wood frames, wool needlepoint embroidered upholstery and brass nailhead trim. Elaborately carved with folded ribbon crest, foliate ribbon twist back and seat rail frames. The carved and padded arms with acanthus leaves, raised on fluted legs. Upholstered in tapestry in beige, brown, gold and red tones with floral bouquets and foliate scrolls. The initials “MLH” and the date of 1929 have been stitched into the seat cushion in blue thread. The seatbacks are upholstered in a brown-toned velvet.
These chairs are a wonderful example of fine craftsmanship and timeless style.
