Original African American Gullah Folk Art Painting on Wood Board Signed by St. Helena Artist Johnnie Simmons, Framed

ThatKateGirl is pleased to offer this original, signed and framed African American Gullah folk art on wood board by St. Helena Island, South Carolina artist Johnnie Simmons. One of Simmons’ earlier works in which he aims to memorialize Gullah history and life, this piece is titled “Last Drag” and features fishing boats, birds, sea turtles, a sand bar, seafood shack, piers, and trees under blue skies, all rendered via a combination of pencil sketching, wood burned lines and acrylic paint. Note the details including a line of birds, brown churning waters, gulls on the sand bar, local verbiage and colors. Measures 17” width, 11.25” height and 1.75” depth.
