On the Design:
Hand-knotted in wool, this piece originates from late 19th century Ireland at the height of this artistic movement. Its design reflects a European take on Oriental rugs, and especially Persian Sultanabad rug styles in its sensibilities. The field and border enjoy rust and red tones with large, finely detailed palmettes as the most present motif in its many floral patterns. Keen eyes will admire Navy blue, ochre, goldenrod and a wide range of other rich hues and fine details.
This is a rich oversized rug like few of its kind from the Voysey era, both regal and collectible.
Condition:
This antique Arts & Crafts rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin. It’s ready for the floor, and its large size offers vast applications in design today.
